Nukhbat al-Fikar

Imam ibn Hajar al-Asqalani's Nukhbatul Fikar is a primary text that is commonly used to introduce an individual to the Science of Hadith (Ulum al-Hadith) and the major terminology (Mustalah) associated with it. In effect it is a summary of the larger works preceding his time on how to understand the detailed rudiments to this nomenclature and its systematic application.

This introductory text covers the types of chains of transmission (asanid), types of acceptable narrations (maqbul) and the types of rejected narrations (mardud). Additionally, the course intends to add further material on how to consolidate knowledge after mastering the fundamentals. All of this will be delivered in a systematic manner with practical examples as and when needed over the sessions.

The treatise on Islamic belief by the famous 6th century Imam Abu Hafs Umar bin Muhammad an-Nasafi (d. 537 AH) is a masterpiece which deals with clarifying and defending the beliefs of the Ahlus Sunnah wa'l Jama'ah. Although a short work, the points covered therein place obligations upon all righteous Muslims to adhere to and believe inwardly and outwardly. Relevant explanation from the 8th century Imam al Taftazani's well-known commentary will also be discussed in light of the text.

An Introduction to the Science of Hadith

A 4 Weekend course under the auspicious guidance of Shaykh Abul Hasan Hussain Ahmed (hafizahullah). Students will be able to grasp the preliminary level of 'Ulum al Hadith/Mustalah al Hadith. The course will be on the similar level as Nukhbat al Fikar of Imam Ibn Hajar al 'Asqalani (rahimahullah) and with the availability of time the Shaykh will read the Nukhbat al Fikar with its complete chain back to Imam Ibn Hajar al 'Asqalani (rahimahullah) and the students who participate fully throughout the course will be granted an Ijaza to the text. An additional certificate will also be given to students who participate fully in the course insha'Allah.
